I'm planning on going to Island on Sat the 10th, so yesterday I popped the hood to do the "nut and bolt" thing, ran the engine, and discovered a fuel leak from the fuel pressure regulator dripping down onto the inner fender, not far from the headers! Yeah, Scary. Turns out that the guy that plummed the regulator must have just waived the pipe dope over the threads instead of coating them with the s#@$*. I swear, only about 1.5 threads were covered. To think that I could have lost 2 yrs of blood and sweat, not to mention a lot of $$$ due to some jerks stupidity really sets me off!! Thanks, just had to vent.

I had taken the car to a local "drag race guru" just to have him check-out all the work that I did on the car so that when I went to the track, there wouldn't be any problems with tech. He pointed out the fuel pressure regulator (mounted in the firewall) needed to be changed along with the super stock rubber fuel line. I felt like I owed him something (for doing the check-out and letting me pick his brains) so I threw him the work. This guy has been racing for 30+ years and currently has an 8 sec Corvette. I noticed a couple of drips from the regulator (I posted on this some time ago on forabodiesonly) a couple of weeks later and took it apart thinking it was the diaphram, put it back together, no leaks, thought the problem was solved. Apparently, that wasn't where it was leaking from. Lesson learned: Can't trust anyone but yourself.

Is it leaking from the regulator or from the threads?

Nice looking car, BTW.

Threads on the inlet side, just shoddy work.
Are you going to Island anytime soon?

When you put it back together, did you re-dope or tape the threads?

I just took a look at the Island schedule, there didn't look like there was any big races or anything that I'd be going to.

I'm way down in the points at e-town, so far down in fact that I don't have a chance of making it up to the top 16. So I may make a trip out to Island once or twice on a Saturday to do some Heavy racing. Maybe in August!

I used teflon to fix the leak, and BTW, thanks for the compliment. It's the 1st drag car that I've built, did 98% of the work myself. The car was a total mess when I got it 2 yrs ago. I'm quite proud of it.

I'm going to Island this Saturday. I usually run in trophy and heavy classes. This way, I'm guaranteed to get in atleast 6 passes; 2 time trials in each class + the eliminations. Maybe I'll see ya there sometime.

Maybe soon. I'll let ya know when I'm going.

Now, go on over to the Island Dragway forum on this board and get something started! Tell your fellow racers about the place. We need more members to get it going!
