E-Town 2004 Fall Swap Meet

Sept. 24-25-26 Anyone going?

sickt7cuda 09-01-2004 04:02 PM

Can't make it....my weekend to work :(

I might go. A friend of mine has a lot of parts to sell, if I can convince him to drag them all out of his attic and throw them in the truck, we'll be there.

I'm forever trying to get there. I haven't been to the swapmeet in probably four years. Everytime it comes around something comes up. This time, no cash! :-({|=

onehellofadart 09-23-2004 10:50 AM

Thats ok Kruger was right , I really don't need any chevy parts or table lamps anyway

quick5pnt0 09-23-2004 10:56 AM

:D LOL
Yea, table lamps, one old gokart tire on a green rim, rusty "lowrider" bicycle, wagon with racing kart wheels, tents full of generic tools, old penthouse magzines, some kid's 1985 Power Wheels Jeep, 16000 pairs of Chevy 350 heads.....am i missing anything?

Actually i shouldn't talk about the generic tools tent because i'm usually in there for hours. [-(

I usually go with a friend who spends half the day in the model car tents.

Went to the swapmeet Friday at Etown and was very disappointed. Hardly any Mopar stuff and what was there was crap. I can't believe that so many people showed up with crap that nobody in their right mind would accept for free, let alone pay for it ! One guy had a crate of distributors that looked like they had been sitting in the East River for years.... a scrap dealer would probable tell him to get lost. I wasted the whole day. Took 2 hrs to get there from Vernon.

onehellofadart 09-25-2004 08:17 AM

Thats about the size of it Dan. I usually go for the exercise. Don't really find anything I need. The vendors of new stuff usually charge more than the catalogs. I love when you ask a guy , what year does this fit and he asks you what year do you have? I walk away.

sickt7cuda 09-25-2004 04:54 PM

Tony, you got that right. I actually heard a guy ask a question and the seller's answer was, "so what are you working on?"

quick5pnt0 09-25-2004 05:20 PM

I've had problems with a bunch of sellers from the swap meet. I hate it when you ask for a price and they act like you have three heads. I've walked away from a number of tables when the person couldn't give me a price. Usually it has something to do with this guys best friend's brother's cousin who owns that part not being there and this guy doesn't know how much it costs.

Last time i was there i asked a guy how much two quad tires were and he looked over at his 12 year old son to see how much the kid wanted. The kid sat there thinking for what seemed like a lifetime and then the guy turned to me and said, "i dont know what he wants", and i left. I don't get why anyone would rent the space, haul all of their junk there and then not know how much they want for it...LOL

On a slightly different note...
A couple of friends of mine rented a space there together. One of them brought an 80's kawi (i think) motorcycle frame/forks that was rotted to hell just for the hell of it to see if anyone would buy it. At the end of Sunday some guy came by saw it and asked what they wanted for it. They told him one dollar and he took it!
After paying they asked what he planned on doing with it (because it was total junk) and he replied "i dont know?, but it's a dollar how can i pass it up?".....LOL

Personaly when I'm there I spend my dollar on the puchase of Rocks. You know the ones that come with a free ice cold beer.
