MSD Ignition install question.
I plan on installing a MSD distibutor some time this summer. I already have a 6al box, with chip set. Should I wait untill I get the distibutor before I install the 6al?
I've been told to wait since the combo of the 2 installed will delete unecessary pcs, and all around it would be easier to wire in shift light and tach,(plug in). If I install 6al first I would have to do alot of unecessary spliceing. what do you think? 8-[ |
Absolutely, I would wait til you get the MSD distrib before you hook it up. The distrib comes with a pre-wired plug on the end that plugs right into th MSD box. Do it now, and you would also have to rewire the tach.
Personally, I hate to do things twice. |
hear ya. my outside sources aren't the most reliable. thats why i asked the question here. haven't worked with a msd in years. thanks.

Just for argument sake I have a seperate shift light, and prob would run that into 6al box not tach. But i think tach and shift light could be spliced together. am i right? :? i think the re-wire would be the orange box and ballest resistor which would be deleted. i think?

Yes, the MSD box would replace the Orange box. And you won't need the ballast resistor anymore. Throw 'em away.
The tach and your shift light should both go to the "tach output" terminal on the MSD box. This is using the MSD box with a Chrysler ignition: http://www.msdignition.com/pdf/pdf20.pdf This is using the MSD box with an MSD distributor: http://www.msdignition.com/pdf/pdf2.pdf |
