So Whats UP

Is anybody doing anything, anywhere ? The board has been awefull quiet.
My self, I posted about my new MSD ignition. Now I have to work the other end of things because now I don't have any traction,(just when I finally got it to hook) ](*,) . Hope I can get to it this comming weekend. I think I will start with just marking the tires and rims and go down in air pressure. If it hooks without spinning on the rim I'll leave it be. If not Iwill have to start from scratch with my Caltracs'. Go back to initial set up point and tune it untill it hooks. For every action there is a equal opposite reaction. Anyway it will get me out of yard work, maybe. I hope. I think .

I have a couple of vacation days Fri/Mon, I was supposed to go to the Lucas Nationals at Maple Grove but that's not happening now.

The Jeep needs some attention (heater core/hoses/belts/etc) so that’s the big plans. I hope to drop off my mustang heads to have them hot tanked so I can start porting them once I get them back. There is a local welder/chassis guy that does work out of his house, plan on seeing his work and if it looks good schedule when I can get the car in there to have the cage done.

I worked on my truck yesterday... Spent 6 hours changing the water pump.

Argh.

onehellofadart 09-13-2004 02:04 PM

mikel, what is it a new truck with schroud and stuff everywhere in the way?

JZ, you decided to to the head work yourself? I remember you were looking for someone to do it?

Yep. '97 Ram with the 5.9L.

The water pump blew up, so it had to come out. Didn't take very long to get it out - only about an hour or so. Took almost 2 hours to get the !@#&($#! fan off the old water pump. Then another 1-2 hours putting the new pump in and bolting everything back up. I almost (but not quite) took a whack at changing the thermostat as well, but there was just too much junk in the way. I had a local shop take care of it this morning.

onehellofadart 09-13-2004 02:13 PM

Good move. Some times its just not worth the aggrevation to save a couple of bucks

mikelbeck 09-13-2004 02:19 PM

After I got the new water pump, I went to fire up the truck and found that the battery was dead. Hooked up the charger, let it run for a while, but it still wouldn't fire.

My Duster graciously donated it's battery to help out. Now it needs a new one... I guess I'm gonna have to finally break down and pay for the Optima I've been wanting!

Tony,

Since there stock E7 heads (read cheap) I figured I'd do the porting myself. I can't really make them flow any worse then they do now. I do want to have them milled and may go with bigger vaves (especially if I hack up the valve seats) so that’s when I'll call in the pro.

onehellofadart 09-13-2004 02:29 PM

Mikel, Optima ? Is that a truck or a battery?

JZ, Good luck with the heads.

Has anyone heard from DARTSPORT?

Could be either, I guess.

onehellofadart 09-13-2004 02:46 PM

Seems pretty good. How much? =P~

mikelbeck 09-13-2004 02:51 PM

Depends on the model...

The yellow top "racing" battery is around $175.
The yellow top "heavy duty" battery is around $190.
The red top "high performance" battery is around $130.

 I guess if it also lasts double the life of others thats not too bad. But my cheap ass I'm thinking a 5 year battery, which only lasts four maybe , so again I'm thinking eight years. :doubt:

Yeah, I'm the same way.

HOWEVER, I just pulled the 72 month battery out of my Duster. I bought it like 2 years ago, every time I went to the track I had to charge it up before I left and after the 3rd run. I put it in the truck yesterday, it charged right up and I've got 14 volts.

I'm thinking one of the Optima batteries would be better for a race car.

onehellofadart 09-13-2004 03:28 PM

prob would you would be double sealed. Battery itself and in battery box.

I guess I was assuming you battery is in the trunk in a battery box. Reading the propaganda on the battery it said it is sealed, could almost be mounted upside down. Thus you would be double sealed. No?

Yes... But are you saying that's bad? :-k

onehellofadart 09-13-2004 05:27 PM

onehellofadart 09-13-2004 07:03 PM

Even better, no handling charges. Is that the name of the place Auto Barn?

Yeah. I think it's a local chain. There's a bunch of them all over Long Island. They might be nationwide, I'm not sure.

mikelbeck 09-13-2004 09:13 PM

Yeah, they're a Long Island area only chain.

I bought my optima battery at Sears, I don't remember how much it was I think around 175. I have the yellow top in the car now it seems to work very well.

onehellofadart 09-17-2004 06:16 AM

Good to know. Is yours in trunk ?

fastbackcuda 09-17-2004 10:38 PM

The champion battery is the same and you can get those at Parts America/Advanced Auto.

BBLM23 09-18-2004 10:22 AM

I have an Optima in the Dart, trailer and Ram. At least two of them came from Autozone...
