Numidia Raceway
I received this in an e-mail today:
Dear Racers and Friends,
It is with much regret that we must notify you that we will not be running Numidia Raceway next year. For the record, payments were made through 10/31. I feel I owe you the truth.
Our attorney attempted to get Mr Demino to commit to allowing me to pay him off before the 2006 season starts. We were never able to get a response. I made one last attempt on 10/31.
Throughout the season I have been plagued with accusations and notifications from Mr Demino's atty concerning so-called "situations" at the track.
Things like, "Unsafe Track Operation", not tech inspecting vehicles properly, Issues with NHRA regarding Insurance, Grandstands and Guard Rail Repair, were cited in the letter I received from Mr Demino's atty on November 1st. Yes, that is one day after my final attempt to get an answer to my pay-off question.
The grandstands are perfectly acceptable to the insurance company. I do not understand why NHRA imposed different rules and regulations to Numidia Raceway. I do not know why our Divisional Event was cancelled without any notification to me. One would think a simple phone call, an email or a letter would have been courteous. Another large event for NSCA was cancelled 2 weeks prior to the event. The reason I received from the promoter was that the major sponsor pulled out. The question would be "why?".
Also cited was Ambulance and EMT service. You all know I used a private Ambulance Company and EMT's throughout the season, for every race. Ronnie is an EMT as well.
Endangerment of NHRA Sanctioning was another cited default. NHRA is not the only sanctioning body out there. As a matter of fact, the other one guaranteed me a Divisional event, some special events and don't seem to have any issues with the grandstands, guard rails, etc…
Another default issue claimed is that Participants constantly called or left messages for Mr Demino concering safety issues related to spectators and racers.
I admit that Insurance coverage was a problem one Friday night. The problem was that the account representative did not call me to let me know there was a problem with my debit card before we started time trials. She was given the card info on Wednesday and never called to tell me there was a problem. She left work at 4:00pm on Friday. I received a call from the account manager that at around 6:00pm indicating there was a problem. My bank was closed so I immediately stopped time and closed the track. It was resolved on Monday.
Near the end of the season, the other sanctioning body approached me to run a Night of Fire race. Bob Lang told me I couldn't rent it to them. (Not even if we used NHRA tech standards) Unfortunately, NHRA was not very aggressive in helping us throughout the season.
Both Betty and I truly believe that Mr Demino never intended to let us pay him off. That was also the message shared from many of you who heard it through the Demino's. Right or Wrong, we simply just don't have the desire or financial ability to fight Mr. Demino, without risking the properties we have left.
We wish you all the best. It was our pleasure getting to know you. Many of you will always have a special place in our hearts. We will miss all of you. Thanks again to all who helped us make the track better than it was in the past.
With Sincere Gratitude,
Your Friends
