Mopar Nats Saturday 5-14-05

Beautiful day mid 70's and sunny.
I Had a great time. Met up with Mike(Mikesduster) and met his father. Second time seeing Mike. Mike and his father are great people.

Ok here we go. First run off the light the motor broke up. Found a loose wire and cleaned the baterry posts. Problem gone.

Second Run I left at 2800 no tire spin cut a .043 light and ran a new best
60' 1.896 and a new best 1/4 13.007 @ 104.02

Third run I ran a I left @ 1800 bad light .352  and spun the tires pretty good 13.575 @ 102.86.

Fourth run 1st elimination I dialed in @12.95 instead of 13.05 I was determined to get into the 12's. I also put the 6700 chip into the MSD 6al.
Left @ 3000 .262 light and shifted @ 6400 ran a 13.016 @ 105.34. I lost by .0543.
All in all I had fun. My friends had fun busting my chops and it was a beautiful day.
Next time out I'm gonna play with the timing a little.
I'm also starting to wonder if I got all the head work I paid for :doubt:

Congrates on the new best =D> , Glad you had fun

Tony, glad to see you had a good day. I spent the day putting down mulch ](*,) Anyway, you're knockin on the 12's, and with some more tuning you'll be there soon. How many RPM's were you turning at the stripe? And was that on the street tires or slicks?

Did the mulch thing last weekend. My back was sore.
6000rpm at the stripe. this was on M/T drar radials. They really bit.

Cool, sounds like you had fun!

fastbackcuda 05-15-2005 01:56 PM

I would think you should be turning more then 6000rpms threw the traps with 4.30s and a 26" tall tire :-k

Ok then thoughts on why I am not?

sickt7cuda 05-15-2005 09:09 PM

Well, RPM's through the traps are also dependent on your cam profile. What are the specs on your cam, Tony? I know you also drive on the street, so I'm assuming you don't want to get too aggressive to keep it streetable, right?

onehellofadart 05-16-2005 06:35 AM

I have comp cam ex274

I would think this cam would want to be pulled to 6500-6800 rpms.

Comp's catalog shows the operating range as 1800 - 6000. I have a much bumpier cam and I shift at 6500, through the traps at 6700+.

Tom

If thats the spec on the rpm's of the cam maybe my problem is over rev the shift points.
Think I should shift @ 5800 to stay in the power curve?
Let 3rd gear take me home?

TomMonte 05-16-2005 02:42 PM

Have you ever tried shifting at 6000? When you shift at 6400, does it continue to pull, or does it feel like there's a slight loss in momentum? When you hit it just right, you'll know...it's like butter.

I noticed in another vidio of the same day it nosed down at a 6400 shift point and then came back up after the shift.

mikelbeck 05-16-2005 07:13 PM

Desktop Dyno says that your max HP is at 6500, but your dyno sheet shows it a little lower, at 6100.

But using that motor in Desktop Drag, 4.30 gears, 26x8.5 street tires, 3500 RPM converter (I can't remember what you have), leaving at 3500 RPM and shifting at 6300 RPM, it says you should be running 12.23 @ 108 MPH.

Even with a "conservative" driving style, shifting at 6000, it says you should run 12.71 @ 103 MPH.

onehellofadart 05-16-2005 07:47 PM

:-x Damm
did you factor in 3500lbs with me in it?
Going through the traps at what rpm?

Yep, 3500 pounds, throught the traps at 6300 RPM.

onehellofadart 05-16-2005 07:58 PM

Thanks again Mikel.
I'll get there sooner or later. Prob just in time for the rebuild

Time to put the car on a diet. Loose the heat, all that radio stuff in there and that sway bar.
