alternator pulley
alternator pulley
Last weekend at the track, I threw 2 belts.
I have an aftermarket alternator (Powermaster) with a 3" chrome pulley which was the culprit. Two factors come into play here; one is that the groove on the pulley is not very deep, the other is that the pulley is chromed, which makes it very "slick". This kind of set-up may be fine for the street where your generally not going to turn 6000 rpm's, but at the track the belts will fly off sooner or later. I solved the problem with a 5" underdrive pulley with a deep groove.

Naw, it lost a belt about a month ago, and I thought it was either a flaw in the belt or a misalignment. Never did find the belt, and I figured it broke but now I believe it just jumped off the tiny pulley. Hopefully, that won't happen again.

Last time I lost a belt it was due to the alternator and crank pulleys being mis-aligned.
I put on a March alternator bracket system and a Moroso underdrive crank pulley, all my problems are gone.
BTW - I found the belt a few weeks later inside the tranny blanket. How it got there, I don't know.

I'm going to Island again Sat the 17th. I'll have to put the Dyno on hold for a while.....got hit with a whopping tax bill. Bastards!!!!
BTW, The underdrive pulley that I used on the alternator is a Moroso 5"
