alternator pulley

Last weekend at the track, I threw 2 belts. I have an aftermarket alternator (Powermaster) with a 3" chrome pulley which was the culprit. Two factors come into play here; one is that the groove on the pulley is not very deep, the other is that the pulley is chromed, which makes it very "slick". This kind of set-up may be fine for the street where your generally not going to turn 6000 rpm's, but at the track the belts will fly off sooner or later. I solved the problem with a 5" underdrive pulley with a deep groove.

Naw, it lost a belt about a month ago, and I thought it was either a flaw in the belt or a misalignment. Never did find the belt, and I figured it broke but now I believe it just jumped off the tiny pulley. Hopefully, that won't happen again.

BTW, The underdrive pulley that I used on the alternator is a Moroso 5"

Mike, will the March alternator bracket system work easily with a Maziere electric water pump?
